IP Phones look like normal desk phones but plug using a network (using RJ45 connector) into your broadband/ ADSL router. Thus they connect directly to the Internet and do not need to be connected to your PC. You can use them without a PC. Now you can also get DECT versions of IP phones (e.g. Siemens C460 etc and many more). There are also WiFi enabled IP phones that look like normal mobile phones but do not use the GSM/Data networks and only work with WiFi (See ZyCEL P200 and Senao Si-68h below).
Tpad is compatible with all SIP compatible IP phones. The default settings should work and you will just need to enter server addresses (sip.tpad.com), Tpad Number and Password in the relevant places.
The IP address of the phone can be obtained from the menu options on the phone itself or documentation, and this can then be typed into a web browser to access the phone web configuration menu. You may need to know the password which should be in the phone documentation and is often just 'admin' or '0000'.
Then you can change the settings to use Tpad (sip.tpad.com) and add your Tpad number and password in the relevant fields and save the configuration. You may need to re-enter the menu to activate new settings. Here are some common IP phones and pdf versions of their setup instructions.
